v3.5 Update - Alien Whims and Expanded Gameplay for Knows Truth Sims
Aliens Reloaded » Devlog
New Whims
- New whims for aliens, part-aliens, and knows truth sims that take into account your sim's traits, personal relationships with other sims, and general abilities.
- You may now, for instance, get a whim to Compel another sim to artistry if your household funds are too low (and your sim isn't precisely... good), or a whim to memory erase an enemy who's uncovered your alienness.
- Conversely, you might also want to take a chance and tell a good friend the truth about who you really are.
Redesigned Alien Discovery
- Alien discovery was a bit basic originally - sims were either confident or angry, and randomly. This rebuilt system looks at many different factors to determine their emotional reaction, which can be scared, tense, angry, confident, or inspired depending on their traits, the traits of the alien, how the alien was discovered, and the relationship between the two.
- Discovering an enemy is an alien is much, much more likely to cause a negative reaction. Discovering a close friend is an alien may cause a sim to be mad if it happens accidentally (why didn't you trust them enough to just tell them?) but is more likely to be positive. Acquaintances to regular friends run a wider range, strongly depending on the traits of the sims involved.
- Sims who become scared during discovery have a high chance of developing a Fear of Aliens.
Fear of Aliens
- The Fear of Aliens trait is designed for gameplay and storytelling. With this fear, sims won't want to be around strange aliens (current friends are fine), and will be tense when outside at night. They'll develop wants to lock the doors to avoid abduction, to accuse other sims of being aliens, and to Blog About Alien Conspiracies (a new interaction available to those with this fear).
- This fear can be resolved by drinking a Fear be Gone potion, or by fulfilling the wants until a resolution to Fight an Alien pops up. Your sim can also talk it out to avoid the violence, by selecting another Knows Truth sim or even an alien friend and discussing their fear (under Deep Thoughts).
New Lot Trait and Challenge
- To speed up the process of discovering that aliens are real (or becoming afraid of them, I don't judge), you can try out the new Lot Challenge, Mysterious Skies. This challenge dramatically increases the likelihood that your sim gets abducted by aliens, creating an incentive to find ways to avoid getting abducted. You can also use it to run a unique variant of the Hundred Baby Challenge. The challenge is meant for a sim's home lot, and will also put everyone on the lot at risk, including visitors. Hi Vlad!
- The lot trait, Conspiracy Hub, is meant as a companion to Mysterious Skies. This lot trait, available on bars, lounges, libraries, parks, and generic lots, starts a gathering of conspiracy theorists between 9AM and 9PM (most of the time). These sims are also in the Know, and can provide tips and advice. Their leaders, the aptly named Lead Conspiracists, are more useful, and after accepting their quest to infiltrate the aliens, will offer to sell a Knows Truth sim a limited selection of their scientist serums. Upon quest completion, a larger list of serums unlocks, and you will also be able to buy a SimRay and satellite dish - for a slight markup.
New Special NPCs and Premades
- Thanks to Denton47's fantastic Premade Household Tool, I was able to incorporate three new premade sims that will be available for everyone who starts a new save (existing saves will get randomized sims instead). These sims include two level 10 Scientists occupying the Lead Conspiracist role, as well as the mysterious alien forum leader, which will appear in hidden households.
- The two new scientists, who I've nicknamed the Science Twins, are fully playable and will keep their special traits even after being added to a household. If you visit the Conspiracy Hub with one, they will assume their role as Lead Conspiracist. You won't be able to buy things from them if they are a household member, however - but you will be able to have them just make what you need. If you want to buy specifically, please visit the lot without them to spawn a NPC.
- The forum leader (identity REDACTED) will also keep their career and special traits. They are not fully built out yet, and the rest of their functionality will come in the v4.0 update.
- All three NPCs come with their own backstories and lore, which will also be further expanded on in v4.0, as well as the quest system.
I have some fairly ambitious plans for the next update, and for me to pull it off successfully, I'm going to need to take a crash course in Python for scripting. The Alien Infiltrator career and its career rewards, aspirations, and story mode are next, as well as a further build out of the Conspiracy Hub. The update should land in 2025, but will take a while.
